What an insensitive jerk! It's not right that he said that at all. I think you should find yourself a new job.
I was in that type of experience before. When I was 22, one of my really good friends died of ovarian cancer. She was diagnosed in January of 97 and passed away in May of that same year. I knew her since grade school and she was like a sister to me. When my boss at the time found out, she asked my brother (who also worked there) why I was so emotional about it. After all, it was only a friend who died. She even told my brother that she could have fired me for going to the funeral and not going to work. A few months later, one of her parents passed away and she apologized to me and said that she finally knew how I felt. There were other issues with her and I quit that job shortly after anyway. The stress wasn't worth it.
Some people just don't understand these things unless it happens to them -- no compassion.
I'm so sorry for your loss.

I would report him to your human resources department as he is well out of order. They have to keep it confidential but it will do some damage to him whether you want to take it further or not. Also there is a chance he will say this about other female staff and will be basing his promotions/bonuses on whether he thinks a woman is a liability - kick him where it hurts in his credibility - it will enable you to let the matter go too.

Wow. That is incredibly insensitive and unprofessional to boot. If I were you I would contact human resources where your work, take your best friend with you to corroborate what was said and file a formal complaint. That kind of behavior and comments shouldn't be tolerated by anyone, especially your boss.

I'd have a question about my "best friend" who was heartless enough to tell me that. Friends are supposed to have our backs and that sometimes means NOT passing on such stupidity! Men have no clue. A woman should. Sorry for your loss. All children are precious.

That is horrible. If you have a Human Resources Department, I'd be contacting them because that kind of etiquette should not be tolerated in any workplace and can only be imagined as against the law.

It's just one guys opinion, don't get bent out of shape about it. He might really think that having a fifth child would be too much. Sometimes people say things in the company of others that they would never say to your face. If he didn't mean for you to hear what was said behind your back, let it go. I don't think that this guy meant to hurt you. Forgive and forget.

that is sooo uncalled for, so what if you have 4 at home? If you were wanting more and could love them all equally and give them the attention that they need sometimes then hooray for you, he needs to just stick with his job description and stay out of your personal live..as long as its not affecting your job, dont pay any attention to his unrated opinions
