A "blunder" is a social mistake that is forgivable, but embarrassing.
Generally it involves saying something that embarrasses someone.
Say you are in the process of divorcing a man named John and are now dating some new guy. I spot you in a restaurant and say out loud "Hello Susan, is this your new boyfriend?" (when you're there with your husband) That would be considered a blunder.
