I have a relapse in my respitatory infection and will be unable to partake in Halloween celebrations. (It makes me very sad since it's my favorite holiday.)

This will sound strange, but maybe you could try it.
1)Put the candy in a bucket or container of some sort, duct tape the lid, lock it, or just secure it some how.
2) Cut a small whole at the bottom or side (make it big enough for a candy to fall through, but small enough so that not all candy falls out).
3) Secure it to your door. You can use a chain to tie it to your door knob or something.
4) Place directions that say:
Dear kid,
I can't come to the door because I am sick, but please help yourself to a piece of candy by shaking the bucket. One per person please. Happy Halloween!

or u can do what ThomasR said cuz that sounds practical and logical too.

Here is an approach you could take to get around problem of the first few poor sports taking all the candy (hopefully, you aren't completely bed ridden).

Have a bowl out. Fill the bowl 1/4 of the way full. Every half-hour or so, fill it back up to 1/4 full. This way you are giving out candy, more than one kid is going to get some, nobody is going to get a full bowl all to themselves, and it isn't quite as taxing as handing it out to each visitor. Good luck, and I hope you feel better soon!

If you don't care that most kids will take the biggest handful(s) they can, then go for it. Every kid loves the person who does that. Put it out early, though, so the younger kids walking around with their parents (who probably won't let them take a whole lot) can get some. Just keep a little for yourself, and don't put out an expensive bowl. Good luck! (and sorry you can't partake this year, that really sux)

It would be nice to leave out a bowl of candy, but the problem is that some teenagers will come along and take the whole bowl of candy.
If you've already bought a ton of candy, maybe u can get a neighbor (if you're good friends with one) to pass out your candy as they pass out theirs.

You could leave it out on the front step, but that means the first few kids would probably take all of it. I guess that is better than not passing it out at all. What else would you do with all of that candy? Sorry about your illness.

The best thing to do is give your candy to a neighbor and ask them to pass out yours in addition to theirs. Leave a note on your door that your candy is being passed out next door. This way, the kids still get it and no one can steal all of it.

just wait by the door for the first half hour of a hour and then dump the rest into the last few kids in that hour...then when kids come, say no more candy, write a note to stick on ur door, or just keep the lights off to give them the hint! ~hope you feel better~

tough call because to some kids when they see the bowl of candy they will cooperate and take one or 2 pieces. Some will dump the whole bowl in the bag and ruin it for others. I say put some in a bowl and see how it works, if it is gone quickly then refill, but be aware of the kids who take to many

ah, im sorry to hear that!!!!

if there is someone else living with you, they can pass out the candy for you cuz if you leave it out there, only a couple of kids will get some!!! if no one can pass out the candy for you, then you should just stay in & turn off the lights so no kids come knockin'.

Hope you get better!!!!

I'm sorry you are not feeling well during your favorite holiday, but seriously, those kids are not going to miss one house not giving out candy this year. They will catch you next year when you're feeling great...I'd say don't stress about it, relax and know that everyone's getting plenty of candy anyway.
