I'm not sure what the first part of the question is asking, and would say no to the later. Much of what occurred in the 60s was effected by the events of that decade - the assassinations of JFK, MLK, and Bobby Kennedy along with the Vietnam War and the disenchantment with that.

The Civil Rights Movement, often indentified with the 60s, really goes back to the 50s - Brown v. Board was in 1955, and the Little Rock desegregation was 1957.

'THE FIRST HALF OF THE SIXTIES WAS JUST LIKE THE 50S
the hippys and all the rebellion did not occur till abt.1968...into the 70s

Yea Happy Days and MayberryRFD and '' that seventies show'' is an exaggeration of the stereo type but I was there and it was allot like it is pictured.
the 50s was very conformist and just like the B&W movies show. The rumblings of descent may have been brewing but the early 60s was just like the "I like Ike" period. After the JFK assination and LBJs increasing the Vietnam involvement (apx65)
things started to turn but it really was '68 and '69 when the riots and all hell broke loose.summer of love and summer of Hate.
but then it faded into ''Dazed and confused" in the 70s and Ronnie RayGUNs tried to make the 80s a reincarnation of the 50s.
Just my oppinion.
hope this helps with your homework.

Hmmmm...Ok, not really enough information. I was born in 1960. What stereotypes are you speaking of. There are so many changes that happened during those 2 decades. I do know this much, when I was growing up I thought the world was really strange, a lot of conflict going on everywhere all the time. Hippies, Vietnam war, sex, drugs & rock n roll, and Tiny Tim...eeew, he was really wierd on the Ed Sullivan show. Good luck with your responses!

I am not sure what you mean by stereotype. The 1960's were rebeling against the war in Vietnam,
the government's involvement in Watergate, and any-
thing else the baby boomers thought was controversial. We just loved to protest. The 50's
were coming out of the cold war and still suffering
the repercussions of WWII.

I do not think this is an unfair stereotyple and I do think it was a direct rebellion...with good reason.
