A set of "day off from my parents" or "peace please!" cards. I'm not sure they sell these cards. I've made them in the past and it's more fun to make them because you and your teen can work on what kinds of cards go in the deck together.
With "day off" cards, you can have as many as you want. I usually think about 10-15 throughout the year is a helpful number. Every parent and teen will have to discuss what a "day off" looks like and certainly it's not a free for all but with a little compromise, each person can feel satisfied and safe with whatever the card allows on the "day off."
With "peace please" cards, you can make these cards with whatever freedoms or limitations you wish. There can be as few as one card to as many as 30. Some of the options in the list can be a day with "no lectures", "no rule hammering", "listen without interrupting", etc. Remember, parents, these cards are for the teen so there can't be cards for you..*smile*
You can also have cards like a "just compliments" day in which the parent can only say good things (smile). You can also do "peace please" hourly cards, giving your teen from 2-30 hours of "peace". These cards can be used in segments of 1 hour each and can have statements like "no yelling" or "please don't talk to me for this hour." For instance, if it is particularly tense in the house, you can have a card in the deck called "truce" in which each person goes to their respective corners for a couple of hours.
This may not seem like the typical gift but it can be the best gift of the year if everyone (parents and teens) are committed to working through it.
I'm 41 now and have a daughter of my own but I can still remember how tense things could get with my folks and I am a living testament to how great these cards can be...if everyone sticks to the deal (smile).

Definitely not Luggage! I'm 18 and I know that I would have no use for that...I would like any gift cards for food or or the mall or stores like Target...Or if the person has a car, gas cards are always appreciated...I would go with a gift card or money because then you can never go wrong! It is easier to use than getting them a gift that is not liked or not useful...by letting them pick out what their getting you are insuring that they will like it! Good Luck!!

Oh it doesn't matter. An 18 year old, esp. if they are a girl isn't going to be happy with anything..possibly cash, but they are 18...ya know? You might as well buy them a gag gift and save yourself the trouble of trying to hard! The luggage is a great choice...lol

the best and cheapest present is a gift card to there favorite clothing store and a dollar card because you can right a little note in the card (there ususally very colorful) and the gift card let them buy anything they like and 18 yr old don't really no what to get so they'll prob buy more then one gifts

Call me sentimental but when I was 18 my papa gave me an heirloom piece of jewelry that belonged to my Granny that I treasure even today. He gave my brother a pocket watch that had been in his family for generations for his 18th Christmas. He gave my sister a gold pen that was also a family heirloom.
You don't say whether it is for a girl or boy, but maybe you, too, have something of sentimental value or importance to your family that would be a life long treasure to the recipient.

Necklaces, bracelets, earrings... let's just say all jewelery are great gifts for girls! The necklace you have looks great! I'm sure she'll love it. Since you mentions "girly" why not add a little teddy bear to go with the necklace! A little extra something she can have at her bedside every day!

I have a 18 year old daughter and a 15 year old. I always give them a prepaid visa card, which works well because they can use it anywhere.
