Very poor performance as the water enters the combustion chamber. How much water are we talking about? They have an additive for tanks that have water. It helpes evaporate the water. If you have a lot of water in the tank you'll have to have the tank droped and the water removed. Water is heavier then gas and sits on the bottom of the tank. the sump is on the bottom as well. so if you get enough water in the tank you can run the risk of the car not starting.

I got some watered-down gas at a cheap gas station one time, and it caused my engine to not turn over when I started it the next morning. The AAA guy came and started it by jamming his foot all the way down on the gas pedal really quick as he turned the ignition (which you're not supposed to do unless you know what you're doing.) He told me that watered down gas causes the water to sink to the bottom of the tank, flooding the fuel pump. Jamming your foot down like that is a way to flush out the fuel injection or something like that. Also, watered down gas can sort of cause your car to "fart"- like it chugs along in a strange, hiccuping way when it's at a red light, etc.

If it's a lot of water, it will not run. If it does, you'll turn it off quickly. If it's a little, it will miss. Like running on 3 cylinders.
Little water-buy some water treatment.
A lot of water-drain fuel lines, and gas tank.

have a reputable mechanic replace the fuel filter then add a can of dry gas to your tank
dry gas is alcohol..... water mixes with alcohol and alcohol burns with the gasoline
