I imagine that that the answer the teacher wants is "Nicolaus Copernicus." However, heliocentric models of the solar system date back to the 7th century B.C. (!) and can be found in ancient sanskrit texts.

Nicholas Copernicus. However, the Greek philosopher-astronomer Aristarchus of Samos had also proposed this almost 2000 years earlier.

Well, Apollonius had suggested it a couple millenia before Copernicus. Copernicus used some results of al-Tusi to give a better model than Apollonius. After Copernicus, it was at least a theory that was debated among Europeans.
