I was married once... She had lukemia. Her name was Hazel. I knew she was going to die when I married her, and I still did, because I was truly in love with her... I'm not talking about some twisted attachment, or something I did because I wanted to feel better... like I was doing something good for someone else... I just loved her so deeply, I wanted her to be happy, and I wanted to spend what time she had left together.

She died last fall. We were married for three absolutely wonderful years... the whole time I knew she was dying. The end was aweful... but it was worth it, and I'd do it all the same.

Those were the happiest and the saddest days of my life... at the same time.

Happiest? Standing on a mountaintop across from Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany. Or watching the sun rise over Smoke Lake in Algonquin, an ethereal mist rising off the water. Or the day I got an acceptance letter that my first poem was being published in a literary magazine. Or the day that I was a feature act singing & playing guitar onstage at a bar where they were also showcasing my artwork. Or my first date with my new boyfriend who is an incredible man & may be "the one"!

Saddest? The day I found out my friend Paul had passed away.

The happiest days for me are those when I am singing and singing at my best.

My next happiest is when I am helping people gain knowledge or learning how to improve on what they naturally have a curiousity and thirst for information.

My saddest times are those when I reflect upon those who I have known and they have died. Then I question what life is about and what is happening in my own life when I am not singing or helping others.

Other than this I could write a book.

The happiest day of my life was the day I completed my last class for my Bachelor's Degree, then going straight to the hospital to witness the birth of my first son.

The saddest day of my life came when I found out my grandmother had passed from a stroke after I had spent an entire year in Korea in the military and had not had a chance to see her until her funeral. That was very difficult to deal with for a while.

Excluding births, deaths, and weddings (you said be imaginative) the happiest day was the day I graduated college. I worked, supported a wife and two children, and went to school at night. The feeling of relief when I walked the walk is hard to describe.

The saddest day was when I came to the realization that I couldn't continue teaching. ( I got "no child left behind"-ed.)

The saddest day of my life was when you asked me what the happiest and saddest days of my life were - AND THEN HAD THE F***ING NERVE TO SPECIFY WHAT SORT OF ANSWER YOU WANTED.

Ask the question, and have the decency to let people answer in their own way, or shut up, okay?

The happiest...the day I was paged by my then friend, now husband, to tell me that his fiance broke up with him.

The saddest....being diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 29. I was 8 months pregnant and already had an 18 month old daughter at home. Yeah, that pretty much sucked.

Happiest: when I got married, I was so full of hope and loved; also when I graduated with a BA degree twenty years after I had to withdraw from the University because of health issues. Thankfully I was able so many years later to return to the same school and walk across the stage and get my diploma, a dream come true! I was happy during all the time I played softball and other sports.
Saddest: when I knew I needed to end the marriage and my hopes and dreams were dashed and torn apart; also when my brother died, when my sister died, when my grandmother died, when my father died, when my cat died and my Dad buried it in the back yard.
