They're homophobic. Borrowing trunks makes them feel like their private parts are close to the other guy, or they have some crush on him to want his stuff. While that should normally enter into play as they wife swap, the allure of wife swapping (seeing their wives being sluts, her being pleasured, the machoism of ownership and liberty with your wife's body) makes up for the homophobia.

Often, man has rashes and worn flesh in our inner thighs.
If dna from semen has survived for 10 years and more to convict
rapists, would you take your chance in using someone elses trunks.

Trunks indicate the spot where your penis rested and now another man's penis will come into contact with it. The vagina acts as a kind of buffer if you will, helping the guy forget his ****-erotic fantasies about his male friend.
It's basic psychology.

No it is not weird. You have not considered the trade-off. Having sex with someone elses wife, who you probably greatly desire, vs. going swimming. No comparison.

They don't get the same satisfaction from the trunks as they do from the wife. I don't think they concern themselves with diseases when they're aroused.
