I think that a lot of physicians develop a professional & clinical distance from their patients, just to be able to do their job effectively.

Getting too close with any patient can be a problem - the MDs need to be objective as possible so as to diagnose and treat their patients well. They need to be sympathetic to the patient's needs, but not so much that it affects their job.

Think of a neurosurgeion or oncologist - they cannot save every one of their patients, so they have to try to be somewhat detached with each one. Taking all the grief home every night would be overwhelming.

So I think the typical male ob-gyn would also develop a way to distance themselves from their patients. Just as a female urologist from her male patients. Or a plastic surgeon who does breast implants.

And can you imagine how a pathologists sees people? Like walking corpses may be.
The only solution is when you finish job, just leave it all behind you at the work place.

If that's the case, should all women that work at the sperm bank stay single?, and if not, do their husbands take a little plastic cup to bed with them?

i dated a gynocologist for a short time. he said it's different when you're intimate with someone - at work, it's no different than a tonsil, or ear, or nose, but when you're with someone you care about, you don't think about the [bad] ones
