I am guessing you mean the buttons on the wall and you have an opener installed? It maybe there is no power to it, not plugged in or the breaker has been tripped. If this is something you are installing now possibly you have a wire crossed or it is not hooked up properly. If you are outside wanting in you may have to get new batteries or also again power problem.

Are you talking about the garage door opener?

If so, the new ones require and electric eye between the openings of the doors.. Most door openers have terminal posts for these electric eyes, they are a safety shutoff.
