Arthur was killed in battle against Mordred, who stabbed him with a sword.

Some say Mordred was Arthur's half brother, who was jealous of Arthur because Arthur got to be king.

Other sources say that Mordred was Arthur's son; Arthur's sister was angry at Arthur so she diguised herself and was let in the castle. She then spelt with Arthur and 9 months later, Mordred was born. You can guess that she filled her son with nasty things about the king as he tried to marry Genivere (Arthur's wife) and take other Britain while Arthur was over seas.

The Battle of Camlann is best known as the final battle of King Arthur, where he either died in battle, or was fatally wounded. As the surviving accounts of this battle are all generally little more than legend or myth (and all versions exhibit traces of folklore), some historians doubt this battle even took place. In most non-contemporary accounts, the battle was caused by a knight on one side who drew blade against orders to kill a snake. As the unsheathing of cold steel was against the rules of the truce, both armies subsequently charged at each other, beginning the battle in earnest. Older Welsh tradition has the battle as the outcome of a feud between Arthur and Medrod (Mordred) with its origins in a quarrel between Arthur's wife Gwenhwyfar (later Guinevere) and her sister Gwenhwyfach.

Different stories have different endings but most claim He was killed in battle by his Son Mordred! Some say that He was Taken to Avalon before death to sleep till England NEEDS him!
There are several Historical Figures who scholars link to Arthur but no proof that it is anything other than a Myth.

King Arthur did not exist, there is absolutely no historical evidence to support it. There are fictional accounts of King Arthur's death, dating from the medieval period. The true Arthur was a `general` or battle leader, never a King, and would have been a Romano-Brit living in the period following the Roman departure from Britain, he died possibly circa 500 AD. No Merlin, no round table, no magic swords.

His son Mordred NEARLY killed him, but Arthur didn't die, he is sleeping on the Isle of Avalon until England needs him again. Or that's how I always always heard it.

Technically Arthur did not die, he was placed in a deep healing sleep to be awakened again when Britain was in a time of great need.

Depends on the legend. In the best known story, Le Morte d'Arthur by Sir Thomas Malory, he is killed by his son Mordred.

However, other versions/books have different stories, and some say he did not die, but went to sleep to wait until he is needed again.

By his son, Mordred, during battle. He also killed Mordred, but his wounds were too serious and they died together. Mordred was his son by the witch Morgan Le Fey.
