Technically when they're out of a crib.. but I think it's two and up, because the risk of SIDS decreases after age 2. If you're going to let the baby sleep in the blanket, tuck the blanket in so they covers can't get loose...

I say about 8 months or 9 to be more sure. I just now started to cover my daughter, with a very light blanket (she just turned 10 months). As far as stuffed animals, as long as they're not too big and heavy it's ok to put them in the crib at this age because they are able to roll over when uncomfortable and can AND WILL push things away.

I think the risk of sids goes down once a baby can roll over by itself. But I owuld still think about putting him to sleep with a stuffed animal. As for blankets they just end up kicking them off. I could never get my daughter to stay covered. Try a footed pajama.

Usually around 6 months. At that time the risk of SIDS goes down dramatically because by this age they can roll around and move their heads. Still less is better, so I would only use one blanket. You can use footed PJ's to keep Your baby warmer. Stuffed animals are OK, but I would take them out when your baby falls asleep.

smothering for one is very different than SIDS, i lost a daughter to SIDS and a stuffed animal isn't going to cause the baby to die unless the baby was already going to die. i agree that they will just kick of the blankets so they're not necessary and really there is no point to a stuffed animal being in the bed until the child is old enough to care about it.
