It's about celebrating their lives and honoring their memories.
My ancestors- the Celts, observed that Samhain (which is now called Halloween, thanks to the influence of the Roman Catholic Church and All Hallows Eve) was the shortest day of the year. Being people who lived in close connection with nature, they thought this was significant that this day was always so short. They beleived that this day had magical properties- that the veil between our world and the afterworld was particularly thin. So, they would honor the dead. Maybe it was supersticious fear or maybe it was genuine respect..in any case..the custom took hold of the people for a very long time. Also, it was common for the children of the villages or towns to go door to door begging treats for the upcoming Harvest Festival..this one took root and became trick or treating when the Irish immigrants brought it to the states in the 1930s.
Today, my Celtic family and friends will observe this day by lighting a candle in the window for the souls of their dead loved ones and by having a special supper where they set a place for the dead and maybe display their picture there as well and recount their memories with stories and such.
So, I know why celebrate Halloween. I have no idea why you do.

I celebrate Halloween, as it is a day to go beyond the norm, play a bit, have fun, & live a lil bit without the normal boundaries being present..
What other day could you go to work in your PJ's? or dress in your fave ballgown? Or just experiment with being one of your idols or heros for the day? Or scare the daylights out of your best friend or family member?
Though....It is about death originally and immortality....
A more Christian holiday than most think.
Example:
"Does the "threat" of you own death horrify you? Are you terrified that you might lose everything you've acquired -- lose everything the world has to offer? That's the Spirit of God telling you that your heart isn't where it should be. This is the true meaning of Hallowe'en -- a Christian is immortal and thus has nothing to fear from death."

Most people celebrate it for candy. And commercialism. Let's not forget fun. And another excuse to get drunk.
Pagans are the ones who actually celebrate it for the dead, and for their new year.

Its only a traditional party time. I would not call it a celebration. Whats there to celebrate? Halloween is just another excuse to have a bash.

Halloween is far from where it originated from. Now we do it to have fun, not because it has any 'meaning'.
