No one can answer this question for you. What are YOU passionate about? What do YOU want them to do about it? One thing about college is that you should learn to think for yourself. Pick something you care about and go with it.

Do not worry about your idea being popular. You are to persuade them to your side by giving a slam-bang speech that gets their attention and makes them see your side of the issue.

To do this, you must give credible references, your thoughts must be clearly expressed, and orderly.

If you do this well, your passion and sincerety will show, as will the fact that you have presented a well referenced, well thought out case.

Do this and you will get an A.

Good Luck!

Sue

If you want a large number of people to "take action" you need to appeal to the already-present thoughts and feelings of the majority.

And you should make it easy for them to take whatever action you hope will occur.

Perhaps a petition or asking each student to donate a dollar on the spot to a certain fight or organization.

Or bring the sign up sheets for whatever you want to persuade them to do....

And YOU have to care in order to persuade them to care.

Pick something you feel strongly about.

How old are the people in your class?

start a speech about the main objectives of communism (teamwork, classless society, equality) compared to the main objectives of capitalism (benifiting by using 1 of 3 ways, cheating, lying, stealing, creation of classes i.e. rich vs. poor,) which one sounds better, dont tell them which one is which in the begining, just talk about the two styles, ask them which one they would rather have, then identify these two types. Great discussion starter.

do they actually HAVE to want to take action? i mean, does it matter? when i had a speech class i think i tried to persuade people to get a tattoo or something. i would do a persuasive speech on: taking a bath, brushing one's teeth, watching whatever your favorite t.v. show is or reading your favorite book. but that's just my personality.

You might persuade your class (for those who own animals, or those who will in the future) to protect against heartworm disease. Its 100% preventable, and its treatable, but its very very costly, and dangerous... i did that once and made an A in my college Speech class. There is a lot of information on it... i covered the basics (lifecycle) then went in to discuss about preventative, and then treatments... There is no reason to NOT protect against it besides being irresponsible.

Pick something you care about, even if it's a small local issue. You can't be persuasive if you could care less about an issue.
