I, too, am on broadband and on the net all day every day. I run Win XP Pro.

On a daily basis I manually update and run Spybot Search & Destroy, then do a Disk Cleanup and then run Ad-Aware se Personal by Lavasoft to clean up of cookies, files, history...the whole gammot... on my puter night just before I shut it off. I also set it to run Scan Disk upon bootup the next day. I run defrag at least once a week after thouroughly cleaning my puter of all unwanted files, etc. and then set a restore point. I do all of this manually so I can control when and how it is done. BTW: there IS such a thing as running defrag "too often". It can somehow even slow the computer, so I don't defrag any more than once a week or just after I've uninstalled and/or installed a program. But after an uninstallation/installation process I run TweakNow RegistryCleaner Standard (Std) to clean up any leftover files from that before I defrag.

I have found that this keeps my puter running as fast and as efficient as possible. All those unwanted files and fragments just slow it down to a snail's pace. I've also noticed that when this puter is clean the screen has a sharper focus.

All the programs I mentioned here can be downloaded FREE from http://www.download.com if you don't already have them and you're interested in trying them.

Yes, you can do it everyday, but if you go back to the same sights frequently, your computer will take a fraction more time to load them again. With broadband I wouldn't worry about it. I would defrag once a week just to keep it clean and you can set your internet options to delete all temporary internet files and cookies every time you log off or exit the internet. Disk cleanup just asks you the same questions every time you access it. Find out what you don't want or need and have it removed.

Delete cookies everyday, and set the history to 0 days. Defrag at least once a month, once a week if you are on all the time. I don't think you can schedule a defrag and cleanup, but you can schedule a virus scan. Also, look into a spybot catcher, like Spybot S&D. That should keep your computer clean and running.

The disc clean-up should get rif of your Temporary Internet Files (cookies). If you want more protection and power to keep it clean, I would get a program called CCleaner (free download from http://www.download.com/). I recommend (even during your highest internet usage) that you set 1 night a week (I personally use Sunday) and do a Defrag, Disc Cleanup. virus scan, spyware scan, adware scan, and so on with all the scans you want.

My boyfriend is a computer tech and he is constantly onto me about doing a defrag and clean up every two weeks, he also suggests that i download any system updates at that time, as well update all my spy ware and anti-virus programs. He suggests that I delete my history and cookies at least once a month.

you add any schedule task :
control panel>performance and maintenance> scheduled task> add task

A better approach is as follows:
1. Use ccleaner(ccleaner.com) -a small programs which cleans junks nicely.
2. Use better and secured web browsers like opera (www.opera.com) and set the option to "delete private data" on exit. You are done!

Defragmentation in windows you don't need to everyday but you can do it every week. Cleaning junk file(temp internet files), you can do it after finishing using internet. May be just before shutdown!

I usually do mine every month or so. But I suppose it all depend on how often you use your computer/internet. For those who use it frequently i think about once a week is good enough.

I do mine every couple of months but idealy you should do it at least once a month. It also makes your computer a lot faster if you do it regularly
