In an O-Chem class I once had, the prof was talking about sweetness, and what defined sweetness. Of course, glucose and the sugars were represented, as well as the artificials, but there was also beryllium.
I guess when german scientists purified a new element or one of its salts, it was traditional for them to taste a bit of it. Beryllium salts have a sweet taste (so much so that it was originally called Glucinium), but unfortunately, beryllium salts are crazy poisonous. So I always imagined the german taking a taste of a beryllium salt and saying "Mmmmm...sweet....erk."

Gallium! It has a largest liquid range of any element (303K - 2477K)!!!

It also has a much lower vapour pressure at higher temperatures, making it much safer than mercury. Over all, Ga is friggin sweet!
