A colposcopy isn't as bad as it sounds. It is usually done after a pap test shows abnormal cells. The doctor will apply an acetic wash (vinegar) to your cervix for a few minutes and look at it through a lighted microscope. Any areas that are abnormal will soak up the wash and turn white, the white areas give him an idea of where a biopsy might need to be taken from. The tissue sample can then be sent off to the lab for further testing.
The colposcopy itself does not hurt, some women experience mild stinging, but that is about it. If a biospy is taken it feels like a dull pinch, sometimes kind of sickening (just because you know what they are doing!) but it certainly isn't anything you can't handle. After wards you might experience some light cramping and spotting, but Ibuprofin can help with that. You do not need to be knocked out or have pain killers for this, it is a very simple and common procedure. You will do fine. The hardest part is waiting for the results to come back if they take a biopsy! Good luck :)

Did you mean Colonoscopy? If so what you can expect is a rather simple recovery. The scare and nervousness is normal as usual for any surgery. Its also rather a simple procedure. You will be given general anesthesia and will luckily not feel a thing. You may have some tenderness and be somewhat sore but nothing too major. This is also an out patient procedure so the good thing is that you can go home and relax in the comfort of your own room versus a hospital room. Pain Medication is given but nothing to extreme. Good Luck and try not to worry too much. If you feel rather anxious you can always ask your doctor if you can take a small does of Valium just to relax you. If you don't ask and take before you will definetely get something similar in your I.V.

A colposcopy is nothing -- they look at your cervix with a microscope.... it's less of a "procedure" than even a pap test. There wouldn't be any medication or recovery or anything.... any more than if you were going to have an eye test!

dont sweat it to much it hurts some but not terribly.
also "yourdream" asks if you mean "colonoscopy", the colon is a totaly different part of your body and has nothing to do with what your talking about. with a cloposcopy you will have something that is much like a PAP. you will not get anethisa, you really dont need it. basicly all it is is a way for the doctor to look more closely and detect abnormalities. i have had 3 of them and ya they hurt a little but basicly its like having minor period cramping for a few minutes. no biggie. you'll be fine. if you want see if your mom, sister, or a close girlfriend will go with you!!!!

I had one done, I was really nervous, but just relax. It helps to have someone with you though. They cut a piece of tissue for sampling, so that felt a little weird. Try not to think about it. If you are scared, talk to your doc, mine was really helpful. But I couldn't feel anything else really. Also, you may want to have someone drive you home. I felt really sick afterwards, like light-headed and vomiting. I wanted to pass out. I ended up going home and sleeping for a bit. That helps. Mine came back negative and I had to go back in 6 months for another pap, to see if that came back abnormal again. I find out in a few days how that went. Good Luck!

When I had one done they started an IV , gave me versit which makes you forget that there is discomfort)thru the IV, everything was fine...my husband drove me home and the next day I was completely normal(if that is possible)Actually, the cr*p they make you drink the day before is worse than the test itself...
I have a friend that has one every year w/o any sort of IV intervention because she wants to do it herself and drive herself home...she claims there have never been any issues..
You'll be fine...

I went with my mom when she was getting hers done and it's just like having a pap done.... It's just a little bit more uncomfortable... She said that it didn't hurt.
