Is there a way to get the person to forgive or understand why you did it?

You need to think about why you lied. Are you ready to accept full accountablilty for the action you took. If you are still making excuses for lying you probably arent going to get full understanding. If you can accept what you did as your fault, and sincerely apologize for it (apology means you are sorry for what you did, and you will never do it again) then a reasonable peson should forgive.

I think it depends on what they think you should do. Explaining might sound like another lie. Some people feel at the time they will get away with it. Many people will take a sick day to do other things. It depends on the employer and how often you would miss days of work. You didn't say what but this is just an example. Was it worth it?

There's a phrase called, speak truth to power, not lying to power. All you can do is tell the truth as to why you lied to that individual.

If you are sincerely sorry and have a good reason why you lied and you tell the person I don't see why he or she couldn't forgive you for it.

I dunno ..
But if i am caught lying to my parents,i am sure they will forgive me..
But in this case,the best things to do is tell him/her the truth....i mean on why we are lying..Honesty is the best policy.If we still lying on him/her who has a lot of power,it doesnt make any sense.We might live withe the guilty feeling.and its done....
So the best way is to be honest...wherever,whenever you are...
