it's the old 'Guns vs. Butter' conundrum.
Not to support the way we're currently spending money or the amounts, but in general, security is a basic need that most of us expect from our government. So, supporting a military is easily a popular and justifiable expenditure.
And- it's not like our government doesn't spend money on social programs. in fact, something over 60% of our governmental expenditures can be said to be social programs to help people.
However- you also want to motivate people to earn a living on their own if at all possible. So- we can't just be supporing you.
Whatever you give to one man... you must first take away from another.

Good question. We are spending $1 billion a week on this hopeless war in Iraq and many more billions are lost and unaccounted for along with dangerous weapons that have probably gone to the terrorists. That money could have wiped out poverty, secured social security, improved our schools, protected our ports and water supply, and provided health care for all of our citizens. What a waste!!

Not on DEFENSIVE weapons only, bright and smart one, but also on supporting troops.
GI programs cover college cost, help buy first home no money down / low cost purchase loan (cheaper than rent), vocational training / job counseling plus help apply for business and farm loans -- all because of original G.I. Bill.
No welfare queens need apply. Hope you're not on that list.

Because there are many people in America whose jobs depend on the gun industry.
Because the gov. needs to control oil distribution in the world to keep controlling the world in many other ways.
Because people in America HAVE to keep their life standards at all cost.
