I would check out your state library archives, as well as local library archives which are old newspapers and news. Also try to talk to anyone older in your street and neighbourhood and ask them if they know anything interesting or noteworthy about your house. Even if they don't know themselves, they may have a friend or relatvie who may know something that answers your question or hints to where you should start your search.
You could even advertise in your local area that you wish to hear stories about your house, you never know a previous tenant or owner could contact you and tell you something interesting.

an abstract of title should be available for you to look at through your parents or owner of the house, then court house records, newspaper articles, older neighbors, former neighbors, local historians, local museums, reference department at the public library are places where you can start

If you have a local newspaper, you might be able to check their archive.
