depends on the type , some will need a total replacement whilst others have a spring loaded tab on the side of the ignition switch which when pressed in with the key in a certain position normally between accessory and full on the barrel will with draw id need to see it to be certain , best way to find out is ask your local dealer

The electrical part being stick can feel like a bad spring. It varies a great deal between cars.

ask your local auto parts dealer. i bought a replacement for my chevy truck the other day for $17. even managed to put it in myself.
