The ignition switch in most vehicles requires you to disassemble and remove the steering wheel itself. If you have an air bag in the vehicle I highly recommend taking it in to have it replaced rather than doing it yourself.

Some vehicles do allow you to change it out by simply removing the steering shaft covers, but this is rare since it would also allow for easy theft of the vehicle.

Change the complete unit. It is easier than trying to change only the cylinder.
