the trauma of breaking a bone causes swelling like any other traumatic injury it takes a while for the swelling to go down
it feels tight at first but if within a week or so it does not feel better or you detect an odor see your doctor immediately
it may have to be loosened
overly tight casts can cause pressure to the skin causing it to break down and form pressure ulcers and infection
keep it dry
keep it elevated to help the swelling go down
with a traumatic injury the edema
(swelling) goes down to the lowest point of the injury so keeping it elevated can help get rid of some of the discomfort
feel better!

It will feel tight and uncomfortable at first because the wound is swelling. It will calm down and feel looser soon.

If it doesn't loosen up after the swelling has gone done, check with your doctor.
