I really want this job. I have the experience required. My hair is about 3-4 inches long, and it still in the stage between twists and dreads. I take care of them and they are neat and not shabby or nasty looking. I wonder will this be a astrike against me. I am well spoken, have a good resume and I will dress accordingly. What do you think?

In a call center????

It shouldn't matter unless the company wants it to matter.

Now, if they want it to matter, then nothing else matters. You'd be better off looking for a more welcoming environment to begin with - strenghthen your job search by looking for places to work where you know it's ok to wear the hair style that best expresses you.

Really depends on the type of job. Location also helps. Like if the job was in New York City they may not care as much as a place out in Iowa or Texas. Also it depends on how much you will be dealing with customers/clients and if your look fits what the company wants to present. I suppose you could always bring it up and tell them you'd be willing to cut it if you get the job.

If you have the time you could always go there and see what kind of people work there (watch them coming and going maybe).

Personally I don't think it should matter but unfortunately a lot of people still judge by appearance.

Well sometimes it will ! because people are funny like that! where i use to work this guy came in to speck, Very well Dress, Dreads, and well Spoken. all the people black and white were talking about him because of his hair, After he were done and the people seen how well spoken he was. then every thing change for the better. so if that's what you be live in is dreads, I'll tell you DON"T cut your hair for this job, go in as you are, if they want you then they will give you the job.on the other hand if you cut your hair, you still may not get the job. just keep on trying!!!! Good Luck!

Dont know about the rest of the world, but I own a a business in downtown Chicago and I must admit that dreads are not appealling to most people. Legally we cannot let that interfere with our decision to hire you but in the back of peoples mind its not as proffessional. If its neat you shouldnt have a problem at the end of the day, thats whats most important..

I think they will work against you. In the corporate world you need to look the part. I used to have white hair with black streaks in it but then got a job in a very high scale business and it was required to change my hair.. But when I went in for my interview with the company I told them that my hair was a statement I was making with my current job and would have no problem changing it if need be.. so maybe if you put it out there to them that you are flexible to their needs they can give you better feed back.. Oh and Good luck with the job.

Well I had locks and was out of work for one year. As soon as I cut them I got a job. I guess it depends on what type of work you want. Anything dealing with the public and you are not gonna get the job. There are some settings where hair does not matter. But most employers want to create a vibe and they take the appearance of their emplyees seriously.

Ask the interviewer if this is an issue, they will tell you. Then how badly are you willing to cut it or change it to get the job.
Hygiene is a key player in their determination. Looks, smells, and dress, etc... Do your best with what you have, and speak clearly, don't mumble, and present them with the best person they are looking for... You!

really depends on the person who is hiring you and what they think. you could be perfect for the job but not get it cause they don't like your hair. they can not say it but all factors do come into play of they take offence to you your out the door. and you will never know why for sure as they will not tell you directly as to avoid lawsuits. they will have others applyin for the job to pull from anyways
