what do you know about Russian icons? in particular icons of the Mother of God?

Have you ever heard about them or seen them? and what translation variant seems the most suitable to you: Russian icon of the Mother of God (or Holy Virgin/Virgin Mary/Our Lady/Madonna)...or may be you have your own variants....i am writing a paper on some issues of transaltion and i'd like to know your opinion.
