if you want to format a hard drive that will have nothing left on it, make sure you have another hard drive with a fully functional Operating System on it installed on the system. go to "my computer", right click on the hard drive you want to format, click format drive then say yes to the prompt that tells you it will remove everything off that drive, then you can use the hard drive for what you want it for
