Yes because otherwise an unscrupulous government will just lock up anyone they don't like without a trial and justify it by saying "we think they're terrorists".
Before you think "no - this couldn't happen", did you know that in the UK, the Terrorism Act 2000 says that a terrorist is anyone whose "actions or threat of action" is designed to "change Government policy" and "is done for political, ideological or religious reasons". Standing on a street corner with a banner protesting against a Government policy is, under this law, terrorism. If you scrap habeas Corpus protection from people judged a terrorists, what's to stop the UK Government locking me up and throwing away the key?

Lets say that thru a series of unfortunate events, you were labelled a terrorist, but were actually innocent. Would you accept your fate that you are now a terrorist in the eyes of the world with no rights and therefore be content that you will spend the rest of your life in prison?
Why are you so quick to throw away a person's rights just because you believe they are a terrorist? One of the foundations of this country is the right to a fair trial. Just because, the people are accused of heinous crimes or are of another country does not mean they should be treated like animals. Why are you afraid of them defending themselves?
If you start to do this, where does it end? Today terrorists, tomorrow serial killers. If you are accused of being a serial killer, you will be tossed in jail and the keys thrown away without you ever having a chance to defend yourself. No trial, no hearing, no defense. Wow, the legal system would become really efficient. Of course, we would need some really big prisons and probably a faster method of execution.
Then the child molestors and then the rapists and then the people who drive with their left turn signal turned on.
It would become the Salem Witch Trials. A single accusation and your life is over.
I also find it amusing that you say they have no respect for human life, yet you are completely willing to destroy innocent people to get them.

It's not about the terrorists. It's about the rule of law. Laws apply to people we don't like too. The issue is going to be that if we in the West abandon our ideals to a particularly nasty bunch of scumbags there is no longer anything to protect Western soldiers/civilians when they are captured by other countries (i.e., Geneva Convention) nor is there anything to protect us next time our government decides they don't agree with a position we take internally and declare us enemy combatants.
It is an extremely slippery slope. Laws need to be situationally independent in order for them to survive. This is why the US Constitution has survived for over 200 years because it provides for fundamental rights independently of the situation.
You can deal with mass murdering terrorist scumbags with the laws in place. The US caught, tried and convicted then executed Timothy McVeigh who killed over 100 people in Oklahoma City over 10 years ago without suspending Habeas Corpus.

All our history, is one one, of uproar from faction against faction.
Barging in on the next settlement and robbing every fertile woman from the next tribe.... Subject: "Terrorist.".. I once answered, the question:"I can only feel sorrow for the people we know as terrorist. It 's not just IRA, Al QED.... Remember the massive bomb attack on Bali.. The Metro In London, During the 70's Baader Meinhof. Last but not least, Israel's blasfemic attack on Lebanon this year... I feel sorry for All of them..... Because we live in this day and age, and AL they can do is hate each other. There is no tolerance in any of these so called chosen people....
2000 Years of Civilization have been built on theosophical foundations, that make one want to turn away, and for ever keep running from them..... Heaven belongs to Al of us, otherwise, I would not want to be called Human....
