You also have lymph nodes there, as well as muscles. If you're starting to get sick, your lymph nodes may swell or become tender. You should check with your doctor if it persists.

Your age, gender and any other symptoms would be helpful. It could be a pulled muscle. If you are female it could indicate cardiac symptoms. Women have atypical chest pain. That's why cardiac diseases are the biggest killer of women. They don't think its cardiac because the pain is not in the chest. If this is accompanied with, shortness of breath, sweating see a physician immediately.

The area of the pain and radiation pattern you are describing is typical of shingles. Although, the type of pain (assuming it's muscle spasms ???) is not.
