My friend is cutting herself really bad but she lied to me and said her dad dug her nails into her arm and her arm looks horrible.i really believed her but i thought about it and some things didnt add up well i figured out she had lied to me , she said she could tell that her dad abused her and she want to go live wit her mom who lives on the other side of the country but her dad wont let her. im afraid she mite do something really bad to herself she talks about how she wants to commit suicide sometimes and it scares me. i dont know what to do about her im really scared. Why is she doing this? what should i do?

The only thing I can tell you is just try to be there for her. That is the most important thing your friend always needs to know that she can talk with you about anything and you won't disappear on her. Another important factor is try never ever to betray that trust but if you feel like she is really going to harm herself to the point where it would do serious injury I would talk with someone about it. I know what she is going through I have been there and still there sometimes. It's hard road when you feel as though you are alone.

The fact that this girl is cutting herself shows that something wrong is going on in her life to the point that she cuts herself. Have you spoken to both of her parents about this? If not, talk to them. Talk to your friend as well and see if you could try and get her to stop cutting herself. People cut themselves for a reason because they would rather feel the pain of a sharp razor than to deal with problems of everyday life. Be there for your friend and support her. More than likely, she has to go see a professional about this situation. You could also talk to someone you trust ( like your parents, a teacher or a school counselor) and see what you can do about this situation with your friend. I hope this helps. Best of luck.

1st of all, may be she's lying, but the again many children are abused today! I use to cut myself for different reason's: to forget the pain of lose or anger or fear. I use to cut myself to the pain and to remember what each little scar ment. There is to many to remember. If she is in an abusive home she needs to tell authorities. I know that will be difficult b/c I 'm sure she loves her dad and doesn't want to see him go to jail or her in a foster home, and the family seperated, but she needs to tell some one IF this is happing by her parents, if not another possibilty is the lack of friendship she wants or the attention from certian people. My little sister started b/c of pure pressure and thougt the scars where cool tattoo's b/c she's only15! We all do them for different reason! Tell her its not worth it, b/c Now I'm 24 and it's hard to work without people constantly staring at my inner arms and legs! It really hurst to be called weirdo and freak by my co-workers. I didn't care in high school!, But now its different! Talk to her and see what she needs!

All you can do is talk to her or find a time to talk to her dad about it. Share your concerns with him and tell him everything. If it doesn't stop then, try talking to your school counselor and they should be able to come up with a suggestion for you or they will talk to your friend and her father. Good luck.
