The top is still in great condition, i dont want to replace it. The car is a mercedes 500sl and is 6yrs old.

Most large fabric stores carry just about any kind of thread and needles you could possibly need.

You will never get a needle and thread through the top's material. Look in the phone book or ask your Mercedes dealer who they recommend for soft top repairs.
They have stitching machines that do this work and a simple resew in areas is cheap and shouldn't take more than 1 day.
Trust the experts....they are experts for a reason. You must be an expert of something to own the Benz to begin with...you should already understand this theory.

look up fabric stores in the phone book in your area. i had the same problem with the canvas on a pop up trailer that i used to own, and there are special needles and thread just for this type of problem. some more good news is that the thread comes in a variety of colors. good luck

You can buy a small upholstery needle personally I would take it to a pro if you have never done something like this be sure and get books from the library to do this.

At a toys'r'us or maybe a pest and pool supply....where the hell else do you think you'd find a needle and thread man?? plus you dont wanna do anything yourslef to your lil cedes if you ask questions of this caliber

You can get this at either a fabric store that carries upholstery material and supplies, or a car upholstery shop might have a fix-it kit.
