Let's put it this way. Suppose I was to burn the flag of a country, AS AN EXAMPLE, a militant islamic state. I would possibly film myself doing it and post the clip on the internet. Do you think that would raise no hostility toward me whatsoever? Flag burning doesn't mean anything to me, just silly people playing with matches. But many view it as incitement to racial hatred. This is a good question Fred Bear and will stir up some debate.

Left alone.
If you really want to get rich, start selling US flags in the Middle East, complete with a box of matches & lighter fuel.
The greatest leisure activity outside North America is torching the stars & stripes. Better the flag than the country though

Well, currently the police shouldn't be able to do anything about it because of your First Amendment Rights, unless of course your behavior is causing riotous or unruly behavior (is inciting violence), then they have ever right. It's a tough call whether to protect the Flag by law. It is one of the few symbols of American, and if you are at all patriotic it is disturbing to see the Flag burned. The act itself is almost per se riotous. As much as I would like the Flag to be protected, and how much it disgusts me to see it burned, I also think our freedom of speach is more sacred. It is very likely the banning of burning would cause more people to burn in rebellion. I say we have some faith in our citizens and live with the few idiots who choose to disgrace our country to maintain our clear freedom of speach.

Completely disrespectful but it's their right to do it the spirit and meaning of what and who the flag represents can't be burned though. Anyone who spits on freedom and liberty is beneath contempt in my book.
Just visit the war cemetaries freedom has a big price you better appreciate every minute of it you owe the guys who gave their lives for their country.

Ignore Jock. Someone dropped him on his head when he was a bairn. So he is now between a rock and a hard place.
A flag is merely symbolic. It's the action of the people that counts. At the end of the day if you let people loose in a darkened room to cause mayhem you wouldn't know what nationality they were because they would all sound the same.

This is supposed to be the land of the free. The symbol of that freedom cannort be just the flag but also the burning of the flag in protest. People don't protest against the country. They protest against the idiots running the country.

The British Police won't do anything about it because of all the "human rights" bullcrap.
To my mind, if you hate a country so much you have to burn its flag then WHY THE HELL ARE YOU LIVING HERE?!?

I love the police stating that they want a law preventing demonstrators from hiding their faces to show to the public that the police are willing get tough on protesters (Of course they say Muslim women in veils would be excluded from this rule - oh the irony)

Burning something is a form of free speech? Does that mean if I burn an Atheist, or a anti war protester or it is free speech? Or maybe I can burn their house or car! How about if I go around burning all ACLU signs, is that free speech?
