It would be useful if you could post your specs. Specifically, CPU, RAM and graphics card make/model/amount of memory.
I played the demo before the game was released with 1GB of RAM, and before buying and installing the full game I've since added a second GB of RAM because the game itself uses about 1.1GB of RAM, and that's not including Windows or any background processes either. When I played the demo with 1GB of RAM it used to stall occasionally, but it wasn't bad and I was using high graphics settings.
My system runs the graphics in high with the anti-aliasing turned off and I've only got a 7600GT with 256MB RAM, and it's not overclocked. I don't know if that helps you with a benchmark.
In the troubleshooting section of the manual (I think there's one at the back) it tells you all the TCP and UDP ports that the game plays through for the internet. If you're using a router to access the internet, then it might be worth setting these ports up manually to port forward. Refer to the router manual for details on how to do this for your particular router if this is the case. Mine didn't need setting up for this, but it might help.
Disregarding the hardware, there is a patch available already for BF2142, so make sure you've installed that. You can get it here:
http://www.download.com/Battlefield-2142-v1-01-patch/3000-7453_4-10595680.html?tag=lst-0-1
Finally, you could review this really good 9 page guide on getting the most from BF2142 which takes you through LOTS of things to do, and also links to some other very useful articles on getting the most from your system.
http://www.tweakguides.com/BF2142_1.html
Hopefully something there will be able to get it moving along for you. Still, if you can post your system specs then it'll be easier to spot of there's anything awry. Here's my specs if it helps:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 (1.83GHz)
2GB PC6400 800MHz RAM
Asus GeForce 7600GT 256MB RAM
Onboard sound, onboard network
Playing through a Netgear DG834N router
Playing the game at 1280x1024 on high settings but with anti-aliasing turned from 2x to off.
You may not be able to play in high depending on your hardware, but hopefully something smooth should be attainable.
I hope that helps. All the best!

Are you asking which one to get/purchase? i might circulate with BF2. don't get the completed series or you're dropping $30. purchase conventional BF2 because of the fact the expansions now come unfastened with the a million.5 patch. Battlefield 2142 replaced right into a sturdy activity, yet there are extra mods and extra gamers on BF2. purchase BF2 and inspect a mod called venture actuality, aimed in the direction of offering the participant with the main real looking gaming journey from the BF2 engine.

Probably just server lag with that many people in one spot at the same time. BF2 is known to do it. Also, BF2 and 2142 share many of the same traits, as in crappy bugs that bog down the game and ruin the experience.
How are those in game advertisements?
