Y'know like "Take the 105 west to the 405 north to the 10 west, etc"

ALL THE TIME!!! YOU'RE SUPPOSE TO! IT WOULDN'T SOUND RIGHT SAYING, " take 105 west to 405 north to 10 west"...that just ain't right!!

Not usually. If I were giving the directions you listed above, I would probably say, take 105 West till you reach 405. Head North on 405 till you get to 10 West...guess I use the word "till" in place of the word "the".
Proper English and to be correct I should use the word "until", but I do believe when saying directions I use till.

I suppose to distinguish one from another. It IS weird, though. Everyone I know says that like THE freeways have independent lives or something. Strange. I will STOP doing that right now. When i go home I will take M-59 to M-14 to I-94, etc. Not the M-59 to the M-14 to... you get it, right.

Not in Texas, you take 114 west to 635 west to 35 North to Vista Ridge Mall.....

That is so funny! I never used to until I moved to So. Cal. I think you have to here because there are so many freeways. (my husband has to take 5 to get to work) If you don't put "the" in there then they all run together.... drive the 5 to 10 could be heard as the 5 to 210... kwim?

The West Coast says "the"
The East Coast puts an "I" in front, like I-95.

No I do not, but I would if you would switch states with me. You can have all of the older drivers (here in FL.) They are on the roads during rush hour trying to get to the mall to power walk before it opens.... then buy running shoes...
