If there was anything written down that could even be vaguely construed as a contract (an email etc would do) then you've got a good starting point. Either way, just let them know that you're not going to let it slide, tell them that you've been to Citizens Advice, and generally they'll pay up. They'd rather pay 2 weeks pay than get prosecuted.

Good luck!

Write to him demanding what you are owed and telling him that if you have not received the money in 14 days you will issue proceedings in the small claims court. If you do not get the money go to the county court the staff will show you how to issue the writ. It costs money but you put that on the bill. You are mistaken when you say there is no contract there is and it is a verbal contract, most contracts are, You problem is evidence you have to convince the judge on the balance of probabilities that what you are saying is true so if you have some in dependant witness then that would be good. I.e someone to whom you owed money and you told them you would pay as you had two week work for instance??

I don't think there has to be an actual contract. Was there a time clock? Did the employer fill out unemplyment forms and stuff on you? Do you have a Labor Relations Board near you? If so, I suggest you contact them. Or your loacl unemployment office askling them if they can suggest what you can do. Talk to presetn or to ex employees if you know any. If all else fails picket the darned place with a sign that says he didn't pay you! You could also get a lawyer or call legal services where they might give you free advice on the first phone call.

Good luck!

Did you fill out all your employment papers so that you have proof that you were employed? Can you prove that you actually worked those 2 weeks? If yes, then you can report the company to The better Business Bureau and take them to 'Small Claims' court.
The best of luck to you!

please take this moron to the small clams court and also talk to your local papers, if you are UNEMPLOYED then you should go to the citizens advice bureau and ask them to help you sort this out , as there was no contract you still have rights IE a verbal contract?
did this moron state why he was laying you off with no pay!?
did this moron make you sign off or was it cash in hand? if it was cash in hand then tell the inland revenue (the tax man ) you will not be prosecuted but he will have his books investigated also his staff will be Questioned about his activity's and also asked about the number of staff that is and has been staffing his businesses?

Get the job centre onto him. If he only employs people for short periods of time he may be doing this to everyone, withholding their wages.

If you rattle enough cages you will get somewhere, if not then you will not get anywhere.

Go to the labour board. You must have some kind of system where you live that protects an employee.

Call the labor board as well as the BBB. Report him to evryone. You can even log into your local news website and report him there as well. You can also boycott him....that works very well!

Good luck.
