total time taken = 60/60 + 60/40= 1 + 1.5= 2.5 hrs

total distance = 60 + 60 = 120 miles

so average speed = 120/2.5 = 48 miles/hr

48 mph. 60 miles at speed of 60mph = 1hour trip time
60 miles at speed of 40mph =60/40=1.5 hour trip time
Total of 120 miles in 2.5 hours
120miles/2.5 hours = 48 mph
