i just got contacts, a week ago, after 5 years of wearing glasses. i have found that they dry out really fast, is there a different brand that does not dry out as quickly? im currently using o2optix. also, how can i make the trasition faster? is it possible? currently, it feels like i have sand in my eyes. is it possible to be more comfortable? do they move around alot? mine have shifted several times when i have opened my eyes wide, and im kinda curious if this normal. thanks for all your help!! :)

Use contact safe eye drops to keep your eyes moist while you adjust to contacts. You are feeling the edges of the contacts when you blink and irritating your eyes, it's normal. Eventually the edges of the contact will dig out a "moat" around the pupil for them to sink into. This is also normal. Once that moat is established and the edges sink in, your eyelids will slip over them much more easily and cause less irritation. Also they will move less once they are latched on better. You said it best yourself, it is a transition period. You will love them eventually :)

Contacts were very uncomfortable for me when I first got them. Keep them in for only a few hours, increasing the time each day. And keep using drops. If you happen to wear eye makeup at all, switch to something natural and hypoallergenic. Often eye makeup will really bother a person when they switch to contacts. You'll eventually get used to them moving around. That bothered me too at first. Other than that, talk to your eye doctor about other brands of contacts. He/She should be able to recommend a brand that is better for you.

I have just switched to Acuvue Oasis....they are great!! they let a lot of air through to the eye so the eyes "breathe" better. They are soft contacts and you can sleep in them up to a week. Also, Acuvue Advanced are good too. They feel the same at the end of the day as when you first wake up And, no, the contacts shouldnt be shifting everytime you open your eyes. You shouldnt be able to feel your contact lenses.

Yeah they move around sometimes. You need to buy some eye drops for contact lenses and use them through out the day. Maybe next time you go to the eye doctor mention this to him or her. It takes a while to get used to them. Just don't forget to take them out every night and soak them in the saline solution. That should help with the dryness.

Different brands will feel different to you, but they shouldn't feel scratch when you first put them in. See if you eye doctor will give you a couple different brands to try. I don't think they should be shifting around that much. Carry some drops with you and use them regularly, especially in a dry climate.

I use proactive. *yes its a brand of contacts* i've been using that brand for over 7 years now(since the beggining of my 7th grade year). and i really haven't had any problems. Sometimes they do get really dry but i just have re-wetting drops with me or i'll clean them off with solution and have no problems with them. It'll just take some time to get used to wearing them. But if they don't get any better go talk with your eye doctor. If it feels like you have sand in your eye try cleaning them off. If that doesn't work talk to your doctor.

I was given the Night & Day breathables by CIBA Vision, the kind that you wear for a month straight without taking them out. They can do this because there are lots of micro-holes for the oxygen. They are super soft and the no-change makes them seem non-existant (except I can see now)
I think eye shops ignore them because the sell 1 pr a month instead of 30 !

Proclear contacts are great. They disappear on your eyes and are very comfortable. But be careful handling them as they tear easily from being so thin. Just make sure you don't use your fingernails at all when handling them, use only the pads of your fingers. If your eyes dry easily, keep some re-wetting/saline solution handy at all times.

You should talk to your eye doctor. They shouldn't be so uncomfortable. If it does feel like sand, it could be a problem. You might not be getting them totally clean before you put them in. You can scratch your cornea and cause permanent damage - go get it checked out. You only have one set of eyes!

Best of luck!

I swear by Night and Day contacts. I don't have to take them out at night...you can sleep in them. Next best thing to laser surgery if you ask me. I have worn contacts for 12+ years, and I swear by these....refuse to give them up. My eyes are NEVER dry..not even first thing in the morning.
