I've always noticed that when the price of gas is $1.95 that it has the 9/10 at the end... therefore making it $1.95 9/10. What's the purpose? does that mean that the gas is really closer to $1.96.. like say $1.959? Did somebody juts intentionally ome up with this to try and screw over the American Public???

It's about economics and psychology. Somebody would have done a study at one time that states that people are willing to buy more gas at 1.99 than 2.00. Therefore, to make sure that they can charge the maximum amount for gas, you will see companies charge 1.99 9/10 rather than 2.00.

You will notice the same things in furniture, auto, or home sales. You'll see prices advertised as $1999 or $29, 995 rather than the rounded up version. Because we naturally read left to right, its is thought that we will more likely make a purchase with the smaller leading number.

Yeah, I think they do that so they can "trick" us into thinking that we are actually paying a$1.95 when we are really paying $1.96 per gallon of gas.

Just another governmental ploy to stick it to the man.

Yes , it is closer to the higher number as you described. The stations all do it to squeeze another penny out of you. They are hoping that people are confused about it and do not realize it is are actual charging 1.96.

because if it was 10/10 of a cent, it would increased the gallon of gas another cent.
