I wouldn't trust any spam or virus program but the following:
ad-aware
eTrust PestPatrol
HijackThis
Spybot
WinPatrol
CCleaner
SpywareBlaster
These are all top rated by computer magazines and sites. Been on the market for years and all are FREE.
I myself run all of these and never have an issue, a virus, a problem, a take over, nada.
just google "download " to find them all

In order for that kind of dirt to reach your mailbox it means that you have done some visiting of sites that promote this crap. So my advise is change your e-mail address and never visit porno sites again. And while you are at it, use your new address for trusted friends only and get another free secondary address for surfing the Internet.

Download, install, and update Spybot: Search and Destroy and SpywareBlaster. Reboot into safe mode and run a scan, clean any spyware detected, then reboot. That should take care of it.
If they're still on there, try using a tool called 'hijackthis'.

No!!!
I use Firefox (keeps me from getting popups and its a better browser than IE).
If you're getting an unreasonable number of popups, I'd download Ad-Aware (http://www.lavasoft.com), possibly Spybot Search & Destroy, and HijackThis!
I use all of those programs here at work (because we have employees who put all kinds of CRAP on their pcs) and they all work great, and they are free.

Run both Ad-aware Peronal Edition ( http://www.lavasoftusa.com ) and Skybot (http://www.safer-networking.org/) to remove any spyware. Run both as one may caught something the other missing. Then go to microsoft.com and download Defender to protect against future infections.
