I am a kid. Christmas isn't begging because you don't ask for the presents and you don't threaten to do something nasty to the person if they dont' give you one.

well u can consider it that way....its like your begging for candy.....but then again also there is the "trick". So in a way u are also "threatening" them that "if u dont give me the candy, I will do a trick on u." so its worse than just begging, yur threatening them as well...

No, it is a social contact, a game for kids, and a custom. We shouldn't alienate ourselves so much from others. Now, the fact that it is a blackmail (people do damages if you don't give them anything) is a little vulgar, but this is your tradition. ( I say your, because I am Greek and we only have Christmas carols similar to that, when kids just sing and be nice, and they get treats).

So, what? You never went trick-or-treating? Geez. Since everyone does it I don't believe it is looked down upon. Some of the older people in our neighborhood look forward to it all year. They love seeing the kids out and about. If you don't want to participate, shut off your porch light. Bah-Humbug

Good grief. The people handing out the candy have just as much fun as the trick or treaters. Kids miss out on so much these days don't take this fun away from them too.

actually trick or treating is a way for total strangers to interact one time a year, and have some fun. most people wont pass on the street and even say hello. on halloween at least these stuck up non-sociable idiots open up one day of the year.

Before children went trick or treating, they used to go from house to house promising to PRAY for the souls of the residents. In turn, these people had to MAKE little cakes called "soul cakes" and give them to the children.

So which would you rather have?

Okay it's a holiday try not to analyze it too much. Under you theory we should ban holidays like Christmas as well because asking people for gifts is a form of begging as well. Please go back to whatever rock you crawled out from under and stay there.

Now you're probably going to tell me there's no Santa Claus either. Right? Let the little beggars have some fun.

Perhaps, but those who are handing out the candy chose to do so ahead of time. They had the choice to turn off their lights and not answer the door, but they went out and splurged on candy so that they could hand it out for free.

Trick or treating is a form of FUN! that's all. If you don't want to hand out treats - don't. Geez Louise.
