The "course" is winning the war on terror, and not leave Iraq until the job is finished. This has been defined several times. It may not be the perfect plan, but it is a lot better than the Dems alternative; Cut and Run. When Clinton did this with the Black Hawk Down incident, Bin Laden said publicly that the U.S. "running away" encouraged and supported his terrorist and showed them that the U.S. Military was a paper tiger that will run when scared.

Regardless of the different views on the Iraq war, if we leave before the job is finished it will do nothing but bolden the terrorist, give them a victory to tout to the world. Increase their daring and drive to attack us and basically leave Iraq to the whims of Al Qaeda. Not to mention the fact that, after the terrorists have managed to set up a fascists Islamic regime, like Iran, the people of the future generations will blame the U.S. because we left them in such a vulnerable state. As opposed to Kuwait, where Americans are not only tolerated but treated with respect.

This calls to mind an interesting concept that others tend to overlook. How many French and other foreigners died while helping us to win independance? How long did our war last? If other countries that aided us decide it was time to cut and run, where would we be today? According to most historians, we’d be a British Colony. Knowing this, how can we consider leaving Iraq without knowing deep down it's hypocritical of how we ourselves became free?

Stay the course when the course is down the wrong road will only get you more lost. Which is what I hope the American people to say a week from today.
