I have heard of babies starting teething as early as 2 months of age. Norm range is about 4-10 months. Teething at such an early age can be bad for the babies teeth.

In rare cases some babies are born with a tooth.

The average is between 4-7 months although some start at 3 and it's not uncommon for some to start way later.

My 11-month old has no teeth yet (although she's been drooling since 3 months and the pediatrician said she was starting teething back then.)

Here are some details and tips on teething: http://www.babycenter.com/refcap/11243.html

ETA: Early teething isn't BAD for babies... I think what Jacket2230 may have meant is that it's not a big deal if the teeth come later. Many people say that the later the teeth come out the stronger they are. I don't know if that's an old wives tale, but for certain they have less time to get cavities!!

Some babies can be born with teeth in very rare cases. Most will start teething around seven months but it can happen as earlly as 3 months or as late as 12 (or even earlier or later).

I was really shocked when my twins (born a month early) started showing signs of teething at 3 months. That's when they began the drooling, biting, ear pulling, irritable, etc. At 4 months they had two teeth and at 5 months they had six teeth.

The answer above that says if a baby gets teeth too early it is bad for them is completly false and should be removed before it worries parents! I am a huge dental hygiene freak and my son who is 2 has been going to the dentist since he was 6mnths old! he got his first 2 teeth with in 1 week of each other at 2months old! they werent fully in until 21/2 to 3months. The dentist told me no age is average for when babies get thier teeth in, it just depends on the child! My friends daughter got her 1st tooth on her her 1st bday! So just watch for the signs: DROOLING like crazy, trying to chew on alot of stuff, cranky, fussy (samething)when this happens I reccommend getting the TEETHING TABLETS! they are all natural and you can find them by the VITAMENS they arent usually with the other teething stuff because they are all natural! But they dissolve instantly in babies mouth to num the gums! Hope this helps

My son cut his first tooth at 3 months. He is now 13 months and has 12 teeth. Every baby is different so I don't think there is a "real" age as to when they start.

My daughter was teething at 3 1/2 months and my son at 2 months.

Believe it or not some babies are born with teeth, so the answer to this question is genetics, usually around 3 months for most.

I had a son born with a tooth, and 2 months later he got his second tooth, so I guess they can start any time. My daughter started to teeth when she was around 3 months, but didn't get a tooth until she was almost a year. It just depends on the child.
