Try to find a compromise. See if the trip can be postponed until after the prom even if it means leaving that night or leaving the prom early. Or see if you can join up later with whomever is going on the trip.

If nothing else, I would chose the prom. You will only get the prom once, but you can always take the trip at some other point in your life.

I would choose the trip myself because my prom was nothing to write home about but only you can tell which is more important to you. Which will you regret more if you miss? Where is the trip to? If it's somewhere not too special, maybe you can do it another time. If it's somewhere far away (to Europe or something) & you may never get the chance again, then do the trip for sure! Take lots of pictures. Seeing the world is more important than seeing people you went to school with. Your true friends you will still be in touch with when school ends anyway...

Good luck & have fun whichever you decide! There is no wrong answer just pick one & make the best of it!

Depends: is this trip international or some really well-orchestrated one w/lots of learning potential?
I would take the trip. Both are once-in-a-lifetime events, but the chances of Prom effecting your outlook & ultimately having the potential to change your life compared to traveling is pretty smegging nil. Look at it in a quality-vs-quantity way, too: one evening, or x days & nights that you may never find the chance to visit again?
I took a once-in-a-lifetime trip the summer of my freshman yr of high school & went to prom. Prom was fun, but if the 2 had coincided, without question I'd still have gone on the trip.

The prom for most people only happens 2 times in a lifetime.junior and senior year. You can't see the future..you may have a chance to take that trip again. You don't know. I think you just have to decide what is more important.

I took the trip baby! Left town the day of the prom, stood up my date, and I had a blast! That is until the cops showed up.
You only go around once. How much bumping and jigging with it you get is up to you. Maybe you're one of those girls on the cheerleader squad, you've been nominated for your class prom queen, you have a date with the jock of the year, your dress and your shoes have been picked out for a month. The prom would be best for you! For me, I was a wild child, right at the end of the hippies and the beginning of the yuppies. I didn't fit the hole my peg was made for so I just had fun, fun, fun!

I'd go for the trip. Proms are just structured, organized social functions wherein events that can happen therein can also happen in other functions. In other words, you can go to other parties or dances or balls with the person you're supposed to go to the prom with, or even with other people, and do the same activities that would happen during the prom. But the trip, as you mentioned, comes only once.

If you have a hot date or someone you know you want to go to prom with than do it. If this trip is something you have wanted to do for years I would definately go on the trip because you can always go to other dances but vacations do not always come around.

Assuming the trip is a really good one, not just the next town over, I would choose the trip. I think in the end the prom is a lot of type with very little substance. I really hardly remember mine anymore, and if I hadn't gone, I don't think I'd be regretting it.

You're only young once. A once in a lifetime trip, although hard to pass up, always has the chance to come around again in your life.
Personally, I'd take the trip. All the proms I went to were disappointing.

Prom is only once. Trips you can take until your 90.
