In terms of Americas core values of liberty and democracy, should we prefer a political process dominated by parties or one in which interest
groups are more important?

Madison termed interest groups as factions. If politics were conducted only to carry out the interest of a faction, then the minority will be abused. Political parties to some degree have to appeal to interests across a spectrum of beliefs and opinions. Both parties have members who support and oppose immigration amnesty for example. If we permit an interest group to run candidates, then the extremes like La Raza will dominate.

They sound more official, but in reality there is little difference. They have their own agendas.
