This is the problem guys....
I've got 6 universities MAX to choose from and I can only write one personal statement..I'm defiently not going to apply for one uni.....example: I want to study psychology and counselling at Reohampton Uni (only uni that combines these two coureses in london), BUT there coud be a chance that i might not get in...soooo I may need to look for another course at a different uni like a health and social care course. How do I generalise my personal statement without looking like I'm not sure of what i want to study...

I hope you understand the problem i'm geting, may be it's not a problem...HELP PLEASE

I am sure you do not want to hear this, but you MUST tailor your personal statement to each school.

Here's why:
A successful personal statement is a literate, elegantly written essay in which the student highlights her strong preparation for her intended area of study, articulates her planned area of study and her goals after completing this study, and demonstrates her facility with current theory and practice in this area.

In other words, why do you want to go to grad school? How have you prepared for graduate study thus far? What will you study when you are there? What theories and methods do you find most congenial in terms of your area of study? With whom do you want to study, and why? (Name the scholars you've found most inspirational or influential. You've chosen the schools to which you're applying on that basis, anyway, aren't you? You must state your reasons for wanting to attend THAT particular graduate program.) And finally, what do you plan to do with this degree once you earn it?

Therefore, you MUST tailor each essay to each program. A general essay simply will not do.

I am not quite sure why you can only write one personal statement, but not considering that...
I would write more about what you want to do with your life and how the classes (try to research the required classes for each program) that are the same in both programs will help you to reach those goals. I was told that the statement is mostly there to determine how you write! So make sure it is perfect on spelling and grammar!

Good luck!

How about this.

Tell them what your first desire is, then explain that you are a pragmatic person and realize you might not get your first desire and that based upon that, you would feel comfortable in going in a slightly different direction with studying in the field of (fill in your next choice).

Good luck. I am interested in how you resolve this. If you can, please let me know. Thank you very much.
