I'm sure there are stupid people everywhere....but it seems like from sea to shining sea our shores our awash with ignorant American slobs.
Why is this?
Inbreeding? Christianity? The Fox news network?
Any thoughts?

LMAO.... since you say "our shores" I assume you're an American... so this a change from foreign criticism. I hate to, but I have to agree with you. So many Americans are ignorant. I doubt its inbreeding or religion though. But the news media... absolutely. The media is so biased, and freedom of the press is just crap.... corporations control media and government both,... and we're told what they want us to know... nothing more.

And too many people accept the news as fact.... because its viewed as authority and run by "authority." But until we question the authority that gives us information, and look elsewhere to find the whole truth, we'll continue to be ignorant regarding the realities of the world.

Fox News for sure. Our values have been bought by the media and sold back to us so many times that we have no idea where most of our “ideas” came from. So now we just do what we are told and tell what we hear. There is also a huge majority of people that don’t care any more and would rather have the coolest songs on there I-pod and the newest ring tone than look on the fact on the world around them to see if there media is lying to them. People throw around words like “conservative” and “liberal” where most people don’t even remember when or how these words entered the U.S media and what they 1st meant, because the meaning has changed. These words were 1st use to describe fiscal policy and where people stood on the issue. Now they describe where everyone stands on every issue because we no longer want to believe that our government is more complex than these 2 words. We love in buy in to ideas when politics isn’t about ideas it about getting things done. We have also become a nation afraid of things different than ourselves. We fear and judge are our people for being different as if them living there lives will hurt ours in any way.

I think Green Day said it best in their song "American Idiot"

GREEN DAY LYRICS

"American Idiot"

Don't want to be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new mania.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind f*ck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the ****** America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information age of hysteria.
It's calling out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alienation.
Where everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones meant to follow.
For that's enough to argue.

Besides the fact that most people are unable to have a debate, the negativity bred by the two party system has made dissension almost illegal.
I dont care if you dont agree with my politics, but to wish a whole group of people death because of their views is so uneducated and ignorant.
I am embarrased to be an american at times, especially when we are represented by that chimp in the white house.

I loved it in the simpsons when Krabbapple or Hoover says "It took the children 30 minutes to locate Canada on the map..."

Actually not to be offensive but you kinda fall in this category. People who lash out at people just cause they don't believe in the same things you do don't make them stupid, it makes them diversified. And don't be throwing around that inbreeding theory without examining your own family cause there was a lot it in history!

disinterest in anything beyond one's one life; it's a culture of convenience.

it's easier not to worry about knowledge and facts, and we've created a society where most people don't need them.

I don't think it is stupidity that is out there. I think it is apathy. We expect our leaders to solve all, but when they don't, we ourselves become apathetic to the problems out there.
