that honey eating, lovable bear "winnie the pooh"? how did that one slip past the censors. I mean in 1924 shite was still shite and A.A.milne named a childs character after crap, how can this be, i think then people would have been a bit more prudish.

I think back then, people's minds just weren't so full of innuendo! Lets be fair, they used to say gay as in happy and we now use it for a totally different meaning! Plus, Winnie is sooo cute and I think if anyone did think that was rude as soon as they saw him, they loved him! It worries me when I see the cereal advert and the young boy utters the words "its a pooh stick"... I bet his mum fought for that line to go to someone else!!

Ah...hate to break it to you BUT Winnie the Pooh was not named after crap...the creator named it after his son saw some bears in a zoo (one called Winnipeg) and saw a swan named "pooh". So he came up with Winnie the Pooh. Now the swan could have been named after poop...but highly unlikely "Christopher Milne had named his toy after a real bear called Winnipeg, brought to Britain from Canada and whom Milne and his son often saw at London Zoo, and "Pooh", a swan they had met on a holiday (who appears in When We Were Very Young)."

Actually his name is a derivative of Winnipeg. He's named after a bear cub brought back from Winnipeg during the First World War by Harry Colebourn.
