Seems like I heard somewhere that you shouldn't eat much peanut butter because your baby could end up with a peanut allergy. Is this true?

Thank you to everyone who responded. I feel much better now. My middle daughter was born with eczema and I always thought I had done that to her. But my other two are fine, I guess it's just on of the things that make you go "Hmmmm...."

I was also told that a woman who drank "almost a whole gallon of milk a week" gave birth to a baby who was allergic to milk - NOT TRUE!!! Especially when there are doctors who recommend drinking a quart of milk a day or nearly 2 gallons a week...

What you crave and/or consume has NO impact on your baby's future allergies, likes or dislikes. In fact, logic would say it's just the opposite - your consumption of those foods would in essence introduce the baby to them early on, reducing the chances of allergies.

I craved peanut butter and cranberry sauce while pregnant for my older daughter and literally went through jars of the stuff each week. She's never had the slightest reaction to peanut butter or peanuts.

Actually you should avoid during the last three months and while nursing. Since you have a history of allergic disease (eczema) already documented in your family this child is at risk for food allergy, environmental allergy, eczema, etc.
Check out the book The Peanut Allergy Answer Book by Dr. Michael Young. Also talk to your doctor.
It isn't about eating too much peanut butter, it's about completely avoiding it so that your child is not exposed to it too early.
Peanut allergy can be very serious. Our child almost died at eleven months old from an accidental exposure to peanut butter. I ate peanuts and peanut butter while nursing. My other children did not develop the allergy. Why not do whatever you can to have a healthy baby.
Good Luck.

I have no idea. However, with my first pregnancy I hate a lot of peanut butter and now my son has a nut allergy. I know that they are probably not related at all, but there is a small part of me that always wonders . . .

Peanut butter and Jam were my best friends when I was pregnant....and I disagree that your child could end up with an allergy, if anything eating lots of PB would keep your child from have an allergy as they would already have a high tolerance for it from your eating it. Besides PB is very high in protein and good for you.

there's a hyperlink. My son has a severe peanut hypersensitive reaction (also soy and legumes: it really is a nightmare searching nutrients that doesn't have soy in it, believe me!). I ate constrained quantities of peanuts even as pregnant (in a lot of situations in chocolate) and we do not have any heritage of hypersensitive reactions contained in the relations. nonetheless, the following he's, epipen in hand. As continually, that is more effective perfect to be secure than sorry. in spite of the indisputable fact that, it is also good to weigh the benefits vs the hazards. if you're yearning peanut butter, then possibly your body and the toddler want it. in case you at the instantaneous are not; then you definitely might want to play it secure and dodge it. in spite of the indisputable fact that, if you're sick, nauseus, and all you are able to save down is peanut butter sandwiches: then definately the ease is amazingly well worth the prospect. As a figure of a teen with an finished shitpile of hypersensitive reactions, i'd say 'dodge them in case you are able to!". it really is Terrifying leaving your son at a daycare or in college not in any respect understanding if the instructor or crew is going to 'forget' to study a label, if yet another youngster is going to make your ideas as a lot as 'percentage' a sweet, or if a figure is going to experience indignant and revolt adverse to the college coverage and deliver nut products to college - and your youngster is going to die. it really is so scary, i visit't even allow you to comprehend. and then there is the fee of the Epipens, the hypersensitive reaction experts, the emergency journeys to the clinical institution.. diverse human beings imagine that is only a rash, yet anaphalaxis isn't a rash, it really is suffocation.

That is an old wives tale, in fact you should eat a large variety of foods because this exposes the child to more things. Not only will it help the child to have a more expansive pallette whe he or she is older but it actually DECREASES the chances for allergies. This is due to A. the exposure to the foods, and B. the antibodies that your body feeds to the child while in utero. But if you are truly concerned ask your OB.

Peanut butter is a good source of protein and other vitamins. You can very safely eat peanut butter. The actual peanut butter does not reach your baby. Your baby is fed through your blood and just nutrients passing in the umbilical cord. Your baby gets no actual food. They couldn't digest it. You should not give a child peanut butter until they have hit one. Eat as much peanut butter as you want. Just watch the fat intake.
