Smoking during pregnancy isn't good but if you can;t quit you can reduce your chances by cutting down dramatically... they say to aim for 5 a day and gradually reduce it as you go. Doctors reccomend that you quit within your first trimester as it gets harder as your go on. I try quitting every day and I'm down to 3-4 ciggies a day... but I'm still trying to quit.
And smoking will not make your baby brain damaged.... but it does raise your risks for pre-term birth, still birth and so on.
Also your placena is one of the most amazing filtering organs you will ever have. So make sure you eat really well and drink tons of water to keep your placenta in tip top shape.

The California Environmental Protection Agency (CAL/EPA) has identified tobacco smoke and nicotine, a chemical in tobacco smoke, as developmental toxins, which means that there is evidence that the substances are harmful to unborn children. Smoking by pregnant women limits the amount of nutrients and oxygen that reach the unborn child. Effects of smoking while pregnant may include miscarriages, still births, low infant birth weight, and sudden infant death syndrome. Children born to smoking mothers may also suffer more colds and other lung problems, and may have learning difficulties, and behavioral problems. The same type of problems can also occur if a pregnant woman does not smoke herself, but is around others who smoke. Babies exposed to cigarette smoke may experience more colds, lung problems, and ear infections. Woman should not smoke while breast feeding because the chemicals in cigarette smoke can enter the breast milk. Agencies such as the March of Dimes and American Lung Association® offer suggestions to help pregnant women stop smoking.

There is not enough conclusive evidence to state wheather smoking while pregnant is harmful or not. Over 400,000 women who are pregnant every year choose to smoke cigarettes. I know there are thousands of reports out there saying that its bad, but where is the real proof. we all need to look at this issue objectively and support the this special time for women.

It can cause low birth weight and birth defects because when you smoke instead of inhaling oxygen you're inhaling poisions. Imagine this, blow smoke into a glass of water, that's what goes through your baby's body everytime you inhale. I smoked at the beginning of this pregnancy and tapered down like the doctor said, I'm now 10 weeks and I've been smoke free for about 3 weeks. If you're smoking you have to quit for your baby.

It causes low brith weight in babies and can cause premature births. You may also eventually get lung cancer and leave your baby without a mother.. It isn't worth it. Talk to your doctor about quitting. A child living in a smoke filled house also has a higher chance of dying from S.I.D.S. New studies shows it may cuse A.D.D. Both Nicotine and carbon monoxide cross the placenta so your baby IS being exposed to these chemicals. I am glad you are concerned and asking questions. Only you can make the choice to quit. Do it for your baby. Good Luck.

Very bad it could cause the baby to be born premature and low birth weight. My mother in law smoked when she was pregnant and had her son at 8 months and he had to stay in the hospital for 2 months because he was so small

Very bad. Please don't do it. Could you imagine leaning over a brand new baby and blowing cigarette smoke into his little face for him to inhale into his lungs? Of course not, and when you smoke that is just what you are doing. Smoking during pregnancy can cause so many health problems. Low birth weight, lung problems, not to mention you would literally be putting a drug that causes cancer into your baby. Think of the baby first and try not to do this...it is so unhealthy and unfair. Your baby deserves a healthy start...don't you think?

Everyone says that smoking cigarettes while pregnant is just HORRIBLE..BUT...I have 2 VERY healthy baby boys, I smoked throughout my whole pregnancy with both of them, Neither were born underweight, Neither have any health problems....Maybe I just get 'lucky', I don't know, But from personal experience, None of the horrid things ppl claim happen, actually do.

My boys weighed the following-
1rst- 9lbs 3.1oz, and he was 21 1/2 inches long.
2nd- 8lbs 8oz and he was 20 1/2 inches long.

VERY BAD!!!!! Any woman that smokes or is around someone who smoke is a selfish ***** in my mind! It causes low birth weight and other issues! I would not even stand near someone who even had the smell of smoke on them when I was expecting! No good at all!

I am not going to say that it is fine to do because I know there are risks with it affecting the baby but from personal experience my mother and sister smoked with all their pregnancies and me and my brothers and sisters and my nieces and nephew were and are very healthy. But I would still suggest quitting so you dont have to risk something possibly happening.
