Arrogance is a natural human trait, and without both arrogance and vanity there would be modern world, no industrialisation, no economy, no democracy...we would be all farmers still living within a feudalist environment.
Almost to a man, it was the scientists egos that kept them going when they got their initial hypotheses or theories bounced, or their first patents rejected or whatever, they persevered and most of modern society is based to one extend or another on the inventions and innovations that those guys came up with based purely on their own ambitions to prove the perceived wisdom of their peers WRONG...
Any one who thinks they can live with arrogance, has no understanding of the human condition from either a psychological or historical view, and actually probably do not fully understand what the word actually means.
Ironically, the process of invention is highly salted by ignorance...the pioneers of the scientific world did not know what they were doing, read Jenners story on finding the cure to Smallpox..he didn't have a flipping clue what he was doing but his scientific arrogance overtook his blatent ignorance of the subject and he just started injecting things with cowpox and Voila....the ultimate cure for a disease that killed half a billion was born....
However, ignorance is the one we could live with out, and the internet is helping us there
Great question sir, you (and the other answerers to it) have inspired me, which does not happen very often!

Ignorant is worse. Ignorance makes you an easy pray of others and of governments.
A lot of people are going to say 'arrogant'. (Mostly because most of us are silly romantics. Which is sort of funny, because Americans have been accused more often of being arrogant, than being ignorant. And I'm willing to bet almost everyone here will preach about arrogance).
But arrogance is just an unpleasent personality. Ignorance is a serious issue. Who would be so stupid as to deny that an ignorant population is more dangerous to itself than an arrogant one).
ERRONEOUS ARGUMENTS IN FAVOR OF ARROGANCE:
1. "I hate arrogant people". The fact that you "hate" something, does it make it 'bad'? (to everyone else)
2. "Ignorance is not one's fault". 'SOMETIMES' IT IS!! It is true that it is not within everyone's reach to have a good education. BUT IF A PERSON HAS TIME TO READ A BOOK, AND INSTEAD TURNS THE T.V. ON AND WATCHES SOME STUPID REALITY SHOW, THEN 'IGNORANCE IS YOUR FAULT".

I think arrogant. With ignorance you may not always know but with arrogance you choose to be so. It also suggests that you think you are better than others which in my mind is a good definition of ignorance!

I think it's worse to be arrogant....if you know something and you're arrogant....well what's the point of knowing what you know? Ignorant isn't always a bad thing, it can just mean that someone doesn't know something :)

Ignorance and arrogance both are worst . They tend to present anybody in a very poor light. Ignorance may give birth to arrogance as a person will not be able to cope with the situation for lack of knowledge and to overcome the consequent shame he may behave arrogantly. This will put him in more trouble.
Both these traits could be corrected by sustained training .

Arrogant people are ignorant, but ignorant people aren't arrogant, so I guess it's worse to be arrogant.

Arrogant will be worst then ignorant. The worse is you dont know how to differentiate. You will be smart when you know you are ignorant and you could get out of it. Arrogant is harder as not everyone can know if the perons is proud. Only others know. Cheers.

Arrogance is worse, because you're fully aware and doing it intentionally. Someone who is ignorant about something, can learn that something. Ignorance is not stupidity. Ignorance is innocent, and can be reversed.
Personally, I am completely ignorant about sailing. That doesn't mean that I am worse than that guy who's truly annoying ego, is larger than a Yacht.
